Grades 3–5 (Independent Learning Kit)

Hands-on agricultural investigations for curious learners! The Grades 3–5 Independent Learning Kit is designed to accompany our online Independent Student Learning lessons. It provides ready-to-use materials that support homeschool, virtual learning, online classes, and independent study.

Students explore agriculture, science, plants, and food systems through engaging, hands-on activities that reinforce concepts introduced in the online lessons. Through investigations and real-world connections, students discover the importance of plants, examine the role of agriculture in everyday life, and explore how food travels from the farm to their spoon.

Each kit contains enough materials for one student to complete activities included in the online lesson series.

Kit Contents

  • Desktop Greenhouse Mini (Desktop Greenhouses lesson)
  • Farming in a Glove (Farming in a Glove: Changing Variables lesson)
  • Farm Web – Mini Kit (My Farm Web lesson)
  • Where Does My Food Come From? (Who Grew My Soup? lesson)

Designed for Use with Online Lessons

This kit is designed for use with our Grades 3–5 Independent Student Learning lessons and provides the materials needed to complete the accompanying activities. Together, the lessons and kit materials reinforce concepts in plant science, animal science, and life cycles.

Additional agricultural literacy lessons can be found on the National Agricultural Literacy Curriculum Matrix.

Extend the Learning

Encourage students to document their observations in science journals, create their own plant life cycle diagrams, trace the origins of food they eat, or share what they’ve learned with family members to strengthen understanding through teaching.
