Source Search

Grades K-12 (Kit)

Look around and identify the items you rely on every day. They likely include food, clothing, modes of transportation such as cars or bikes, building materials such as steel or wood, various technological devices such as cell phones or computers, and several tools and machines. Where did these items and raw materials used to make them originate? Doing the Source Search relay helps students answer that question. Use the Source Search Item Reference List or view this video for the correct answers and explanations for each card.

Kit includes: baskets, Source Search pictures, and basket labels.

Activity instructions, background information and additional resources to accompany this activity can be found in the lesson plans A Search for the Source found on the National Agricultural Literacy Curriculum Matrix. Select the grade band relevant to your classroom.

    Everything you need

Posted by Amy Decker on May 10th 2021

I love that this product comes with literally everything you need in order to do this activity with your students. The bins are good quality bins and I will probably find other ways to use them when I'm not using them for this activity.

    Great Hands on Activity

Posted by Elizabeth Dickey on Oct 22nd 2019

My students loved the hands in activity. They were able to have a discussion afterwards about where things come from! They realized the importance of farms!
